HEALTH CARE: REAL STORIES FROM SOUTH DAKOTANS

I work in the health insurance industry, and I understand how difficult it is for people to get health insurance so they can afford to receive health care services. It isn't so bad in the group market, but there are huge loopholes in the individual market. People, who are not healthy, cannot get insurance. We turn people away every day and they want to buy health insurance.

If they have not exhausted COBRA, they often do not qualify for the Risk Pool. If you are a self employed individual, you do not have access to COBRA. If I were you, I would really focus on fixing the individual insurance laws. People who want to buy individual insurance should be able to regardless of their health status.
