Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) today met with Hot Springs native Victoria Cachro, who he nominated earlier this year to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy.  She will begin classes there this fall.

“I enjoyed meeting with Victoria as she prepares to begin classes at the Air Force Academy,” said Johnson.  “It is clear she has a strong character and commitment to public service necessary to join the ranks of our nation’s servicemembers.  I wish her all the best of luck as she begins a new chapter of her life.”

Cachro is a recent graduate of Hot Springs High School and is from Hot Springs, South Dakota.  With the help of Senator Johnson’s recommendation, Cachro was accepted to the U.S. Air Force Academy.

In order to be nominated for a service academy, young men and women must be of good character and must meet strict requirements in academics, physical aptitude, medical fitness, character, and leadership potential. Candidates must receive a nomination from a member of Congress or from the Vice President of the United States.
