Washington, DC—U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) released the following statement in regards to the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court:
Judge Sotomayor has a distinguished record. She has twice received the strong, bipartisan support of the Senate: first when she was appointed to the District Court by President George H. W. Bush and later when nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 1998. She has already proven to be an intelligent, tough and mainstream jurist. Sotomayor has been known as a moderate on the court and would bring more federal judicial experience to the Supreme Court than any justice in recent memory. I look forward to learning more about her impressive record as she goes through the nomination process.
