Today in the Senate

May 19:

The Senate will convene at 2:00 p.m. and proceed to a period of morning business with Senators permitted to speak for up to 10 minutes each.

There will be no roll call votes during Monday's session. The next vote is expected to occur Tuesday morning.

Do you need to work 40 hours per week to qualify for an internship? No. Tim's offices are flexible in scheduling work hours-especially during the school year.

If I work in Washington, DC, who pays for my travel and housing costs? It is the intern's responsibility to provide their own travel and housing.

Where will I stay if I work in Washington, DC? There are various housing arrangements available to interns in the Washington, DC area. From late May to mid-August, local universities provide dormitory housing to summer interns.

Is this a paid internship? Tim provides a stipend to interns. The amount of the stipend depends on how many hours you work.

Can I receive academic credit for my internship? You should check with your college advisor for your university's policy about academic credit but yes, most of the time students may receive credit.

How long is an internship? A school year internship lasts anywhere from a semseter to the entire school year. A summer internship generally begins end of May through mid-August.

What is the dress code? When the Senate is in session, it is important for all staff to wear business attire. When the Senate is in recess, more casual attire is allowed. Interns in state offices should always dress in business attire.

Must I be a political science major in order to intern? Students from all academic disciplines who are interested in learning more about the federal government are encouraged to apply.
